Beneath the Surface
Acrylic on Canvas & Textile
This artwork captures the ongoing journey of discovering my inner peace and freedom, highlighting growth as a continuous process marked by new challenges. The fractured canvas layered with threads symbolises hardships and struggles, while the diver’s metallic texture reflects my attempt to shield myself from adversity. Yet, reality is inescapable—true growth demands confronting the depths beneath the surface, where struggle and liberation intertwine.

Comfort
Acrylic on Canvas
This represents the reminiscent of my childhood and not wanting to grow up. To this day, I find comfort and solace in my childhood objects, such as teddy bears, which also embody the significance of my family’s influence in my life. The vibrant and pink colour palette elicits a sense of playfulness and innocence. Moreover, the exaggerated scale of the bears surrounding me provokes vulnerability and childlike innocence emphasizing my naivety.

Drained
Acrylic on Pine Wood
Drained is a depiction of stress and burnout. With deliberate intention, I overcrowded the center of the painting with textured items such as a pillow, jacket, books, and stuffed toys to overwhelm the eye. The high and spread-out angle is employed to exaggerate the state of vulnerability. Furthermore, the body language and absence of my face are symbolic of the loss of identity due to the burdensome of overwhelm and stress.

Strangled
Acrylic on Canvas
I delved into an abstract exploration of powerlessness amidst stressful times symbolised by knots. Divided into 3 frames the background incorporates organic forms and plant roots to represent life’s inherent nature where challenges are bound to happen. Using rough and unblended patches to evoke stress. Along with the act of holding the string serves as a contrasting element reminding us that the control is in our hands yet sometimes we feel vulnerable and helpless guided by our own choices.

Lush
Mixed Media, (Watercolour on tea bag, ready made objects: glass cup, fake flowers, wire, thread)
This piece immersed me back to the cultural roots of Chinese culture using the idea of tea bags. The natural elements are symbolic of the growth and vitality of life and the beauty of nature, urging it to flourish. By connecting with my cultural heritage, this has enabled me to understand my identity on a deeper level fostering my journey of growth to adulthood.

The Unknown
Acrylic on Canvas
My intention for this piece is to convey the fear of the unknown throughout my life. The colour scheme, predominantly gloomy with natural greens and browns implies the presence of uncertainty in life, which fosters personal growth. The dark, eerie forest symbolises life’s uncertainty. Additionally, the stairs represent the courage to embrace the unknown despite the challenges and difficulties one may face in life.

Sunday Afternoon
Acrylic on Canvas
Drawing inspiration from Monet’s The Artist’s Garden at Vétheuil, I created a vibrant painting in the Impressionist style, using saturated hues and reimagined composition to evoke the warmth of a sunlit afternoon—extending Monet’s vision into a new, inviting scene.

Traditions
Acrylic on Canvas
Born from photographic prints, ‘A Penny’ captures my cultural roots—layering Hong Kong’s iconic objects and architecture as visual metaphors. The encircling black border reflects our collective spirit, a core value of our heritage.
